Tourism eNews
Ladysmith - Cedar

Hi there,

Welcome to the Feb. edition of your local tourism industry news.
We skipped last month’s edition becauuse we were closed for the holidays.
Did you miss us?
I was fortunate to travel to a country I have been drawn to for years. Egypt with its tombs and temples. Some highlights included a hot air balloon ride in Luxor and three days crusing the Nile capped off by a Nubian New Years!
Coming back home I realized that we had our own temples right here. They may have been “built” by mother nature but they are equally inspiring. Our forests, our coastline, our natural beauty. Let’s face it, we rock!

Olympic Games Live SIte

For the duration of the games, the Ladysmith Spirit of BC Committee has created a “Live Site” for group viewing of the games at the Aggie Hall. Watch the events on the new giant screen and share the excitement. Let everyone hear the collective roar as Canada scores a goal or wins another medal.
Plans call for all-day viewing on the Saturdays and Sundays with selected events being shown during the weekdays

The bookings are already coming in for ladysmith Maritime Society's docks.  There are already four rendevous scheduled for this year, according to the new visitor centre with its meeting areas, showers, and washrooms are helping cdrive interest in the docks from boaters in the Pacific Northwest.

Ladysmith Tourism Advisory Committee - Photo Competition

Ladysmith Tourism Advisory Committee’s photo competition brought in numerous and impressive entries, making the judges' job in selecting the winning entries very difficult.
The judging panel has selected the winning entries for each of the four categories: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. Given the number of excellent photos received, they have also selected a photo worthy of an honourable mention. We are pleased to announce the winners for each category are:
SPRING:
1st Prize: Gary Backlund – Eagle (see photo)
Honourable Mention: Maureen Miller – Spring Sailing
SUMMER:
1ST Prize: Linda Convey – Harbour Fog
Honourable Mention: Rick Ruppenthal – Water Park 2
FALL:
1ST Prize: Lorrie Barnett – Marina
Honourable Mention: John Berger – Anchor Fountain
WINTER:
1st Prize: Rick Ruppenthal – Christmas Street Scene 1

The Ladysmith Tourism Advisory Committee would very much like to be able to use all of the submitted photos in upcoming marketing campaigns and as part of a slideshow on the Tourism Ladysmith website. However, such use requires hi resolution photos of approximately 2 - 5 MB size. We would kindly ask that entrants provide hi resolution copies of their entries on dvd or cd, and at your convenience, drop this cd off at Development Services, 132C Roberts Street.
Again, we sincerely thank you for your interest and submissions to our photo competition.

Unexpected Guest

The house filled up with an expectant audience on the Preview night at The Ladysmith Little Theatre February 4th 2010 of Agatha Christie's The Unexpected Guest. I was excited to be one of them.
Wile enjoying a glass of wine and the company of two special girls I took in the set. From this moment on , if the set was to be a bench mark, a expected to be well entertained.
The cast did not disappoint from start to surprising finish. I found "The Wife" captivating, "The Officer" a delight and the "Younger Brother" believable.
Running until the 21st, call 250 924-0658 for more info.

YPDG Variety Show

The Yellowpoint Drama Group’s spring Production is one not to miss. Every evening promises a combination of comedy, suspense, music and even a locally produced short film.

Comedy, suspense, music and film abound in Yellowpoint Drama Group’s spring production which runs Friday and Saturday from March 12 – 27 with a bonus ‘sneak peek’ on Thursday, March 11. Doors open at seven with the music starting at seven thirty and a curtain time of eight. Tickets are fifteen dollars.

This season also marks the return of ‘Dinner Theater’ on Saturday, March 20, which features a decadent buffet. Seating is limited for this event so early reservations are recommended to prevent disappointment. Tickets are $30 with a meal time of six thirty.

Three one act plays will be featured including Closet Madness by Murray Schisgal which is a comedy about a Broadway playwright who decides he is going to try to be gay. He sees this as the only way to garner success on the theater circuit and generates many laughs during this male ‘change of life’ crisis.

Two Crooks and a Lady by Eugene Pillot is a classic ‘who-done-it’ with many twists and turns leaving the audience on the edge of their seat until the final moment.

The final dramatic piece, The Morticians, is a world premier written by a local playwright, Richard Broad. A morgue is the unlikely setting for the comedy of errors which leaves the two morticians arguing over a body that’s still warm.

Along with the laughs and suspense comes the music of Bob Harrison, Bobbi Schram, Mary Murphy and Sarah Wood. Each week will feature a different performer promising a unique experience every night.

For tickets and additional information please contact Kathleen Schenker at (250) 722-3067.
