Hi there,
The other day I was walking Cable Bay Trail with my dog. The riot of colours competed for my attention so much that a few times I simply wandered off the trail, lost in the glory of the colors.
Fall is a great time to rediscover our hiking trails. The bugs are gone and the carpet of leaves under your feet is a sheer delight.
We hope you enjoy your autumn and welcome your thoughts and comments on our local area's attractions and delights.
See you on the trails!

LADYSMITH FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
22nd ANNIVERSARY
Light-Up Night: Thursday, Nov. 26
It's that wonderful time of year when Ladysmith is transformed into a magical place of sparkling and twinkling holiday lights and decorations.
And it all begins with an afternoon and evening spectacular celebration attended by residents and thousands of visitors from all over Vancouver Island on Thursday, Nov. 26.
The Ladysmith Festival of Lights Society invites you to take part in our 22nd anniversary of Light-Up Night. These fun-filled, family-oriented festivities will welcome the 2009 holiday season. Nowhere are the lights brighter and warmer than right here.
The hillsides will come alive with over 150,000 dazzling lights. From the Coronation Mall, at the south end of town, to the downtown core on First Avenue and all the way to Aggie Field at the north end, you'll enjoy the glow and twinkle as a result of thousands of hours of volunteer work.
A Festival fundraising community spaghetti dinner at the Eagles Hall begins at 3 pm. Also, many restaurants throughout Ladysmith will be open plus a variety of food concessions will be located all along First Avenue.
Wandering entertainers and musicians will delight the child in all of us plus stages at two downtown locations will present local musical talents. As night falls over the darkened street, Santa Claus himself will arrive from the North Pole to pull the big switch that magically turns on all the lights.
The ever popular Ladysmith Kinsmen parade will begin along First Avenue and proceed to the Aggie Field where more spectacular Light-Ups take place at Bob Stuart Park and the mighty Chuck Perrin Christmas tree. The evening concludes with spectacular fireworks presented by the Ladysmith & District Credit Union. What a wonderful way to spend time with your family and friends in the “Light-Up Capital” of Ladysmith!
In 1987, Bill Fitzpatrick first considered the concept of stringing a few lights on local business buildings to draw some attention to the approaching holiday season. He could never have imagined how his small idea has now become an annual event for over 16,000 visitors who join Santa in flipping the light switch. It is through the unfailing and generous efforts of the countless volunteers that our tradition remains alive and well in Ladysmith.

This fall the Nanaimo Paddler’s Club spent the day cleaning up the shore line around the Ladysmith Harbour.
They estimated that approximately 1200 lb of material was picked up and hauled away! The club volunteers their time to do this because they often paddle the waters of our protected harbour.

Thank you to the group for all your efforts in keeping Ladysmith the jewel that it is.
