Youth development through rugby

Hi rugger,

While enjoying our summer, the Illinois Youth Rugby Association has also been hard at work in planning and preparing for the 2010 season.  Last weekend we held a very successful Coaching Clinic in Chicago where the majority of the participants were youth rugby coaches who were either fine tuning their coaching skills or taking their first steps in starting a youth rugby team in Illinois.  Also last weekend the iYRA administrators attended a meeting, organized by USA Rugby, of youth rugby leaders from around the country to learn best practices and share ideas.  This coming weekend an introduction course in rugby refereeing is being held in Lemont on Saturday August 15, 2009.  This would be a good opportunity for anyone interested in youth rugby to quickly learn the basic rules of the game and also take the necessary steps to become a rugby referee.  Click here for full details.  The iYRA will be holding their Summer Meeting on Sunday August 23 at Athletico's Headquarters in Oakbrook, Illinois.  The meeting will start promptly at 1pm and everyone is invited to attend.  Future initiatives for the fall are to run a series of Rookie Rugby events at Rugby Clubs throughout Illinois, meet with interested parties in Springfield Illinois to start youth rugby clubs in that area of the Illinois, run Park District youth rugby programs and also have a booth at the Annual Convention of the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in St. Charles, Illinois to promote youth rugby.  If you are interested in helping to advance youth rugby in Illinois, on a volunteer basis or a paid basis, please email Secretary@iyra.org  requesting further information on how you can help grow youth rugby in Illinois.
