Youth development through rugby

Hi rugger,

The Illinois Select Sides, the Tornados, have recently completed a series of games against Wisconsin and other State Select Sides.  Under the direction of the Select Side Head Coach, Nolan Day, the Tornados have performed well with some of the players attracting the attention of the USA National team's Selectors and being invited to participate in rugby camps leading to possible selection to the USA National U-17 and U-19 teams.

We thank Premium Preps for the first class coverage they provided of the Tornados games against Wisconsin.

Rugby Coaching Clinic

Newsletter photo

USA Rugby will be conducting two coaching clinics in Chicago on the weekend of August 8 and 9, 2009 for youth rugby coaches.  The two courses are:

Introducing Rugby Workshop:
This course is designed for coaches that spend most of their time introducing the game to new players. It is ideal for high school head coaches and college and club assistant coaches. The focus is being able to implement the fundamentals of the game to players that have little or no experience.

Developing Rugby Skills Workshop:
This course is designed for coaches focused on working with players with experience and aspiring to help those players play at a higher level. The course work is ideal for head coaches and those that are involved in club and all-star play. There is an emphasis on identifying key factors, practice planning, game sense and skill development.

The coaching clinics will be held at:

Chicago Hope Academy
2189 West Bowler St and 2433 West Roosevelt Rd
Chicago, IL 60612
